According to the blog website futuretimeline.net, the year 2040 will show that many contries will suffer from water shortages due to overpopulation and climate change. One of the strategies meant to address this issue are floating “Energy Islands”.
These islands would operate as offshore power generation plants meant to provide needed energy in that particular region. First demonstrated in late 2010, significant numbers were shown recorded with regard to the ability to conduct ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). Each Island would be hexagonal in shape and interlocked with other islands, in addition to wind turbines and concentrated solar power would installed topside.
A single 250 megawatt OTEC plant would meet the energy demands of over 250,000 households and provide over 600 million liters of drinkable water each day.
